As a budding young professional in the Central Valley the narrative for success was that we had to leave to be successful. My story has been much different. Our communities need you!

Westerners are very good at honoring diversity, but not very good at practicing it. If we are ever going to learn about someone who is different from ourselves, we are going to have to leave the comfort of our familiar world and begin a relationship, not just by talking about ourselves, but by truly wanting to make a connection. This will take honesty, curiosity and a willingness to be open to new ideas and relationships. That kind of relationship will require sharing stories, listening with a desire to learn, a willingness to respond emotionally, and wanting to establish a friendship of mutual understanding and respect. The world is not a plane flight away. It has always been close at hand. We can never become a global community until we have first learned about those who we work with, our neighbors, and those we have been taught to be afraid of. What we are talking about is breaking down the walls we have created out of fear and truly desiring to confront what stands between us.

Everyone has leadership abilities and talents, they just need to be discovered and developed. A key aspect of this is boldness and going after the things you want from your education, in your career, and for your life. This session will show you how to overcome circumstances, environment, and obstacles and how to pursue your passions and dreams.

This panel will involve a discussion of undergraduate and graduate programs offered at Stan State, specifically a Bachelors in Leadership Studies, Masters in Public Administration and Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Success of an individual is a social responsibility. Like the old-school hip-hop song says, "When I move, you move!" Join me as we discuss important elements to have on your team for you to reach your ultimate success! Stand up!

Leaders in the 21st century will need to be skilled in building bridges to various identities that everyone brings to the table. If that is a group of volunteers, employees or other ways the people interact, our identities (our race, gender, sexuality, ability, national origins and other similar aspects of who we all are) will influence how successful, enjoyable and productive any group will be. There are skills that will help anyone navigate the complexity of "who we are" and "where we are going" with grace and dignity. Let's talk about some of them!

Let's face it, there are people and topics that at some point are just off limits. You just can't do it or them right now. Even worse, often it is a difficult topic that you have to bring up with a difficult person. What if you could engage in these conversations with more confidence, humor, and ease? No matter the person or topic, you are your best tool for conversations that matter. Understanding your self and others as differently right gives you the tools to intentionally design teams, groups, and partnerships that can bring value to a single project or topic. We are all frustrating to someone, and at times even to ourselves. Once you know who and how you are, you can reclaim responsibility for these behavior response patterns and leave room for others to do the same. Before you know it, you are having better conversations and fuller relationships with those around you. I promise – it is that easy.

Social media development is an important part of our world and understanding how to use it to your advantage is even more important. Wellington highlights how creating themes and content on digital platforms can change the world.

This workshop will have four panelist who lead by example and believe in the value of giving back. Discover how you can gain valuable experience and give back to your community and make the world a better place.

As we continue to navigate unprecedented times, leaders are being tasked with engaging and collaborating in new and unconventional ways. It has compelled us to re-define and co-create safe and supportive spaces so that both our health and well-being are prioritized. In addition, it has given us the opportunity to explore how we are also supporting others. During this session, we will explore the intentional strategies that are needed to cultivate communities that are grounded in equity and compassion.

This workshop will focus on fundamental ideas and experiences related to community work from a grass-root, social justice lens; while also highlighting some key concepts that aim to support students and emerging leaders in the areas of public service such as: Government, Education, Social Work and Philanthropy.
